Manifesto
Hold the Novelty is essentially a tight knit group of artists and journalists that are currently based in London, UK. The collective manifests itself through the realisation and conscious clarity of self expression. Sharing our contemplations, insights and overall comprehension on the substance of our surroundings for all to interact with. Hold the Novelty is a platform for analysis, innovation and most importantly collaboration.
Through our many common grounds, we try to establish a true and honest adaption of our shared experience. This resulting in an interaction between various different mediums, in the forms of imaging and written matter. We are of European descent and we met through chance, whilst studying at University in London during 2010. This is a document devoted to our way of being.
I. Let our time be our time with inexhaustible love and infinite wonder for global view points. Live peacefully with purpose.
II. Bring forward key issues in relation to the bigger picture of ones actions and input into civilisation, be critical and analytical.
III. Progressing naturally along with a pace that suits the creative period when collaborating within our body of work.
IV. Be attentive to dropping ones egotistical presence when engaging with the arts. Purely just create, ideally making it hard for anybody to distinguish where the art begins and the artist ends.
V. Challenge the current belief system through our love for the arts and counterculture. The latter seems all too hard to find amidst todays desaturated society. It seems hope is all we have living in the complexities of contemporary society, where psychological and bodily suffering is accepted as a total norm. This should not be accepted as a norm. Whether the suffering is due to working a job we majorily dislike or to the fact that we are eating ourselves into diseases. We live in a breathtakingly beautiful world yet the ones who persistently bring a lack of colour to all that surrounds us, leads the way on their high horses. Search for freedom of self expression, thus will result in slowly supplying humanity with a reminder that soul, spirituality and longevity are necessary vices for any individual.
VI. Always strive to live harmoniously with nature and embrace it. Use technology as a tool to do so.
VII. Raise awareness and be an example of the fact that any individual or group has the potential to change the boundaries of contemporary society and all it encompasses. Refuse to be a passive onlooker in a world where action really does bring about change.
VIII. Know no limits.
IX. Sharing is caring. Presenting alternatives to what we’re invasively exposed to on a regular basis. As a collective this is our attempt to immerse people deeper into reality as we feel that this is not done enough.
X. Continously develop a larger sense of present moments and be ready to dive into the unknown. Go forth and explore to enlighten daily life and broaden our horizons. The world is our playground afterall.
XI. Always be honest and truthful in anything one does. From simple conversation to journalistic work. Apply with courage and correct values, which in return will benefit others, do not jeopardise and lie to them like the mainstream media of western civilisation does to its people.
XII. From the dawn of time humanity cultivated the earth by firstly weakening its grounds, we are wanting to counteract this imbalance and raise awareness of ones environmental impact.
XIII. Be mindful of materialism and ownership. Question your individual consumption, from the cheap item you pick up in a store to the overpriced illusions of apparent ‘luxury.’ Know what you buy and what chain reaction you create in doing so. Nobody truly wants to fund and support the exploitation and destruction of the world and its inhabitants. Support (local) companies and goods that are beneficial to the environment, humanity & wildlife. Moderation, focus and simplicity normally work best in this instance. Detach your mindset from the pursuit of goods.
XIV. Avoid and disrupt the companies that neglect and ignore the subjects made in the above point. Do this through use of detournement and overall culture jamming. This is one aspect of well-being that makes a whole world of difference. If we continue to support companies that have very little morale ethics, they will only continue to grow and propser which will result in a variety of negative affects; from climate change and global warming to slave labour and slaughter. *Company Blacklist resource coming soon*
XV. Consider others well-being. There is no room in this world for narcissism.
XVI. As we all know, the more the current system grows the more inferior things become for 99% of us. Come to realisation of this and act upon it. However be in no way cynical about it when presenting to others, simply present wise alternatives that are beneficial for real social and environmental prosperity that go against the establishments way of dumbing us down, only simply to support the economy. What does the economy matter anyway? All physical money in circulation today is apparently owed to somebody else.
XVII. Acknowledge difficulties and learn that problematic occurences encourage development, so in some ways problems are thoroughly beneficial. They push and expand our school of thought.
XVIII. Delve deep into ones imagination and thoroughly compose all executions in any work we do. Our actions are for the purpose of positive and eye opening production.
Finally, there is no rigid format for the members that make up Hold The Novelty, although some positions have to be filled accordingly, the creativity of our team cannot be boxed as certain genres. This is primarily due to the restrictions and limitations that come with the labeling of oneself as part of any organisation. We have no care for the hierarchy, apparent superiors or status quo. Equality prevails in our school of thought.
